A student researcher at the high school level may also submit a  STEM based research paper for evaluation and possible presentation in the Symposium. To participate in the Symposium, a student is not required to have an exhibit to display at the exposition, but he/she must conduct primary STEM  research as a basis for the paper.

At the City Exhibition of Student STEM Research, a student may be selected to represent the Chicago Public Schools at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science Exposition (IJAS) to be held at Bradley University in Peoria. The student may also be selected to represent the Chicago Public Schools at the International Science and Engineering Fair held annually in one of the major cities or possessions of the United States. (This flow chart  highlights the steps a student should follow as he/she proceeds initial concept to the school level and on to the regional, city and state competition.)

Students with language and/or hearing impairments who will present at the City
STEM Exhibition are encouraged to seek the assistance of their sponsoring teacher in making arrangements to have a language interpreter or sign language interpreter available during judging sessions. Arrangements for the use of a sign language interpreter can be made through the CPS Office of Specialized Services (553-1800).
